Marketing has become an umbrella term for almost everything an organization does to reach people. Search. Content. Advertising. Social media. Websites. Email. Referrals. Outreach. All of these can be marketing but they do not always operate as one connected system. An organization can have strong visibility and still make it difficult for someone to understand what it does. A referral can happen without the person receiving it finding useful information online. A website can explain services well but send every audience through the same contact path.
